Class Outing 2009

Its Andrea (Tan) here :D

Its been so long since we meet each other,

and since its gonna be holidays for most of you guys,

its the best time for a outing.

There are 3 choices that I have put across for the outing:

CHOICE 1 : Picnic at Marina Barrage.

We can have a picnic there.
We can either buy KFC or PIZZA HUT or BOTH

or we can also bring along some home cooked food,

snacks and drinks.

We can lepak lepak there,

playing some card games

and take tons of pictures for memories :D

CHOICE 2 : BBQ around Joey's place.

I have some supplies for the bbq food that we may need.

We should order the food that are ready for bbq

since everyone's busy and food prepared should be halal.

If you have any supplies that you would like to share,

I will have to see the feed backs from the class,

if this would be the choice that all of you prefer,

i hope none of you are dead or not coming to this blog anymore. anyway , a class outing will be arrange on 8th feb , a sunday. people who are working take off day okay , those going church one ask god forgive you cause you miss your class too much , those anniversaries with boyfriends/girlfriends tell them not this anni , and those who is lazy , slap yourself hard and say you'll b coming(and really turn up horhs). okay , but there is one very not really minor nor major problem. and also kinda irritated if trying to think too hard. and honestly a little shock... i am going to be a form teacher again in 2009... and this brings me memories of all of you again. I still can strongly remember what i say to all of you on the first day of school and how funny was the introduction...

but on 02 JaN 2009, I am going to see yet another type of class with a total different type of students.

Ball Start Rolling: A CLASS OUTING FINALLY!

Dear all, My apologies for all for the multiple changes in the dates.... option 2 , 24 dec was a good option initially until mrs wong reminded me that I have to accompany her with her family functions and preparation... so I have decided to change it all again to another date.

Trust me, now i know why nobody wanna plan a outing, its so damm hard! I sent out a sms... and only a few reply, the rest... haiz....

below are the LATEST information for the upcoming class outing on next week.

Date: 29 Dec 2008 / Mon
Time 3pm
Venue: Bugis Ctrl Stn
Purpose: meet up to eat and tok cock
Dress code: Free and easy not sexy

Remarks:
1) please dont ask me where to eat or what... i will just anyhow find the best place to go to based on the response and the number of people who turned up.

2) those with a little financial problem will be noted. you are still encourage to come and meet up with us.

3) Try to be punctual, once i wait for 15mins or later, I will just leave with the crowd of people who turn up

4) if you turned up late or you are unable to meet at the specific time, you may wish to contact us and me us at a later time. e.g. you got something on till 4pm, you are still welcome to meet us by giving us a ring.

after sending out a sms to most of the 4e3 pupils i can find in my phone contacts, I recieved a weak response of people who can make it on monday. Most common reason gave by those who cannot make it is due to the fact that they are working on monday...and i can understand this of course due to the short notice that i gave all of you... so how

I think again and again and even harder because i really wanna meet all of you all. so I come up with two options

OPTION ONE
- meet on monday 22 Dec
- venue: sentosa (big group size, 20>) / seoul garden (small group size 10<) - time: sentosa (11am meet at vivo) / seoul garden (12.30pm meet at bugis) OPTION TWO - meet on wed 24 Dec aka Xmas EVE!!! - venue: ECP (big group size, 20>) / settlers cafe (small group size 10<)
- time: ECP (11am meet at vivo) / settlers cafe (12.30pm meet at chinatown ctrl stn)

AT FIRST GLANCE : My New Flat!

Hahaha, finally, my new house is ready for me to move in! and today 7 Dec is the auspicious day for moving into my flat at clemeti!

(urban-concept: my living room and stairs to my bedrooms. House theme colours: black/ white/ grey)

ermm house warming not so fast as the house is still quite mess-up with all the dust after renovation and I have to make super sure that its clean and shine as my wife demand the standard like that I used to have when I was in the NS....

But do think its possible to do a house warming before school reopens.... but before that... its cleaning,cleaning and more cleaning!!! Arrrgh!!!

How's 4E3 and Where is Mr Wong....

seems like this class blog is losing the steam for a while and I've really been so busy that i couldnt really find a proper time to catch up with all of you again....

So how?

maybe a little summary of all the activites that has been happening to me to justify why i am busy. If i give 100% of the time that I have since the end of 'O' levels till today , 08 dec...

40% of my time i am with my red cross cadets
30% of my time i am with handling with the issue of my new flat and my sucky contractor
15% of my time i am spending effective time with my wife (opps... pls forgive me... I know i am not a good husband ....)
10% of my time i am doing school work N planning for 2009
5% of my time i am with my family....(guilty)

this is a life of a grown-up( and a teacher)...imagine that the if i have no CCA committments, I would have all the time for my loved ones....

Ok, having say so much... how's everyone?

STARTING OF GCE O LEVELS EXAMINATIONS
(Round One: Science- Chemistry)

Ok people, just a few tips to share with all of you before exams

have enough sleep the night before ( at clock 7 hours of sleep) your mind will get tired especially when you think. also a person with lack of sleep have a brain that runs at a lower effeciency and also poorer in analysis
if it is a afternoon paper, please do not eat a full lunch, else you will get very sleepy one
if you are having lunch, please ensure that you dont eat food that will cause you a "short sharp pain " in your stomach. that will be very discouraging when you are doing your exam papers
time is of an essensce. please do not waste time and try to work within the paper duration
do not do anything that will "excite" you. sometime our brains tend to be against us for the wrong things.
check check check. check your items that you need for that paper. chemistry bring calcuator
ic and entry proof always important
a good uniform ensures safe and sound entry to school

Remember the golden rulez

1. stay calm, read

2. spot for "keywords"of the regeants that you know " e.g. aluminium powder = test for nitrate" and jot down your prediction in pencil first.

3. use standard "O" level phrases like " XX precipitate observed" no precipitate observed" , " no visible change" , " bubbles of gas produced"

4. wear goggles

5. test for gas must be very fast! prepare your test (e.g. lighted splint, litmus paper) before the gases escaped! @#%*!!!

6. while heating pay attention to the testube. watch out for fumes coming out!

7. redo the experiment only when necessary (time yourself, chem 45mins max)

8. remember that when heating a solid strongly means 99.9% chance that there may be a gas evolved

9. standard colours, blue, dark blue, red, reddish brown, orange, purple, green, yellow, white. Dont haolian your vocab unnecessary.

10. dont sleep in the lab! even if you finish the paper earlier. kns. check, check and check!

10 oct is the day that I will never forget.

A class that I used to have is leaving. Although I have been a form teacher of another class before, but my feeling is different for this class...especially when you are leaving.

It like a kind of emptiness that I did not anticipated, As I wont be hearing/WORRYING about

- subjects teachers complaining about you

- the lame jokes that yuyang, 3oclock, jiahui will say out out

- Ben to update me with the attendance

- Junhao and his unsual look

- checking on who is absent

- the wierd hairstyle that some of you are having

- the blur looks /sleepy faces that i see when i stand in front of the class

- the people that they will get into trouble with the school

- the people who are lost and weak in crucial subjects

- the smart ones who are lazy

...and so many more....

...But the usual routine with this all of you has ended...

Unusual but true , I also find that I started to get worry for you since you are leaving me; just like a feeling of a father I think a little too deep into your future. And that could probably explain why I cannot hold back my tears after I told you the story about the morale of the pencil parable. To be honest with you, I have practised this speech before, but never was it as emotional that I feel when I read out those words to you. CREATION OF LARGE HADRON COLLIDER ( LHC )

LARGE HADRON RAP

Tonight, at 03:30 Eastern (US) time, the world will not end. That’s when the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) turns on.

The world won’t end for two reasons. Well three. The first is it didn’t end the night before, or the night before that, and so on for several billion nights past, so odds are pretty good it won’t end tonight. Historically, it’s the way to bet.

The second reason is that the LHC cannot — C A N N O T — do anything to destroy the world. It can’t make eensy black holes, or quark nuggets, or anything like that. If someone tells you otherwise, they’re wrong. We’ve been over this. Don’t make me turn this thing around.

The third reason is that what’s going to happen tonight is that protons will be injected into the accelerator proper for the first time. They will be constrained and accelerated by fierce magnetic fields, and will zoom around the LHC’s 27 kilometer circumference… in one direction only.

Got that? Those protons will be moving at just a hair under the speed of light, but they’ll all be moving in the same direction. That whole "C" thing in the LHC? That stands for Collider, and if all the protons are going the same way, they won’t collide.

So even if you cling tenaciously to your antiscientific beliefs despite overwhelming evidence against them, you still can’t destroy the planet with a collider if nothing is colliding.

So if you hear someone saying they’re worried/terrified/plotzing themselves over the LHC turning on tonight, you can point them here and tell them that there’s nothing to worry about. There won’t be anything to worry about later in the year, when protons are injected into the other beam moving the other way, so that they can actually, y’know, collide. But there’s really nothing to be concerned about for tonight.

And if I sound a little snarky, well, I’ve been through about a dozen major doomsday scares in the past decade, and I can’t help but notice that every day I still get up and brush my teeth, just as if the Earth hasn’t been destroyed. I also can’t help but notice that these claims of doom and gloom and boom always seem to come from people who just don’t get the science.

People who do get the science say there’s no worry. And y’know what? They’re right. We’re still here. We’ll still be here tomorrow, and we’ll still be here during, after, and long after the LHC goes to its full power proton smashing sciencey goodness.

Sleep tight. Tomorrow will come (and for a lot of you, you’re reading this after the LHC is already up to speed, so there you go), and the next, and the next. And eventually, when the LHC is working at capacity, there will come a tomorrow when we understand the Universe just a little bit better. Maybe even a lot better. And you know why?

Because it’s science. And science tends to work.

My Worth, your worth...

Its the time of the month where tutor cum teachers are hot-hunted by agencies.

sometimes, when i looked at these advertisement sent to my email, I cannot help but tempted to the amount of money a secondary school tutor can earn per hour.

assuming that I have one student only which pays me $50 / hr. Let's say per lesson per week, i teaches him 1.5 hours only. Hence, one money I will earn 1.5 x 4 x 50 = $300

This is just one student.

During the sept holiday, I offered my time to some of you, and say each group is made up of about 4 students and i normally teach about 1 hour, and this holiday i have meet up with at least four groups... if i were to charge ... I will be collect 4 x 50 x 4 = $800!!!

whoopieee....

but i charge you free. because, making you understand the certain concept is priceless. but then again, understanding without self-revision and practice = waste of time also

so think about what i said. everytime I do a remedial with you all, it really means alot....

Yo! class, Although in the mood of prelim, I have a good piece of news to share. Class photo taking session in back again. And this time, like in the past, exclusively for the graduating classes only.

So here's the details
Venue: School Hall
Attire: School uniform with a tie on standby.
Time: 2.20 - 2.30pm

Also note that...

1. please be there by 2pm as I will need to arrange all of you according to your height.

2. please also be in your best uniform, attire is quite a fussy issue as I heard the VP will be around to see if everything is ok, so please don on your best school uniform.

3. I hope to have a full class attendance. Then We will take a "fun" class photo together. after the formal photo. If you like to, you can bring your camera, but strictly no Handphone ok.

after the movie, everyone is still unwilling to leave just like that... so we ponder and walk and alk and ponder... and we end up outside .... the arcade!

pay attention to the two abnormality in this photo: 1) there's someone at the background pitching xinhue's chubby face , guess who's that. 2) there is a ghostly figure between xinhue whose face is so blur, it cannot be identified.

ben so hungry and excited for xiao long bao that his both hands waved at turbo speed; cant wait to rush in.

A VERY BIG THANK YOU TO ALL MY "DEAR CHILDREN"

01 september 2008 marked the exact date for teachers' day for me.

Thinking back three days ago, I still remember how the feeling was, when I am in school celebrating pre-teachers' day.

The deepest of these feelings sank when I looked at my fellow teachers; each recieving something, either big or small from their form class or their subject classes.

I cannot forget is when one of the teacher asked me, "so what did your form class gave you"

I paused and reply with a smile," they all wished me a " happy teachers' day " and I am gald I had all the fun with them today. that's the best thing i can ask for!"

But today, I know, its not just the happy teachers' day that they say, it is more than the surprise that came to me from them , a little black book, compiled with each of your small entries. That is really amazing!
And some even included their personalised photoshots (probably they know that i have a short term memory with faces and names)
Really a VERY beautiful book! filled with drawings and various colours.... (to be honest, even my wife is impressed by the artisitc and creative design of the book)

Enough say, perhaps I will do a review of the book after I have covered all the pages.

To end this long and lengthy blog, I really love to say this OUT LOUD!

Consultation Hours for chemistry

Dear all, these are the days which I will be free, and I am thinking if I can keep one day all purely for chemistry for 4e3, and that day, I presume, its 04 sept, thursday. What do you all think?

Here's a layout of my free time

Monday: 1230pm onwards (whole day free)
Tuesday: Not Free
Wednesday: 6pm - 8pm
Thursday: 8am onwards Whole day free (may be using the class in frontier library)
Friday: 8am onwards Whole day free
Saturday: 7am - 12pm

I prefer to coach a group of 4 pupils only and We have to very serious about it when we start the lesson. Also, to prevent one student from chopping the whole day, I will use only 2 hours for each group

Hi 4E3,

Thank you all for giving me a good time today, the telematch was super fun and extremely hyper, we are shouting and cheering non-stop! And among all the rest, Our are the most "enthu" one. :) Thank you all for giving me this one unique kind of experience to bond with all of you. that I will nv forget with all of you on my last days in this school. :) This will be my greatest present from all of you as memories are there to stay in my life.

the birthday babies are figuring how to cut a cake without the cutting knife...

And at the beach, the whole class go GAGA over a "huge rock" erected out of no where... they guys climbed and step on "it" the girls simply loves to rub thier bodies with the rock as a result of this photo shot.

the beach volley ball was fun, esp when yuyang keeps shouting jap-anime phrases like "ban-kai" and the boys cheering and jeering... and charis acting stupid... hahaha...

BEACH in a day (part one)

The spirit of the class was great during youth day was great! everyone was super excited about everything... so alive, it makes me wanna stop time and be in that happy moment for a longer while. I will never forget the water ball games, the birthday cake madness, the makan sessions... an so much more!

my reflections of the trip (its a "mini testy" of every one spending a long day with together)

** disclaimer: numbers are not in order of favourism, please dont read too much into what i say, neither does the quantity of words i wrote subject to your misunderstanding of favorism**

1. Joey
the one of the three who i met first at vivo, her special ability is the loud sharp pitch of laughter that can be deafing if standing too close ( -1000hp ). plus her 2nd deepest impression was her ability to adapt with the surrounding just for making up. she can even put extremely thick make up on a sunny sandy beach... POWER!! hats off for her!

2. xinhue
no particular special ability, but stay away from water, which i suspects that's her weakness. But the most grusome thingy that caught my attention on her could be that spot of her stub in the middle of inside of her mouth.

3. xinyu
deadly, her laughter is of equal frequency as joey... of if both of them comes left right side of me... i got a headache when they decided to laugh together. xinyu ability of ah-lianness is ultimate. she is bold...she speaks what she thinks. no reserve.

4. ben
a sporty guy, impressed by the way he played volley ball. (yeah....!!!)

5. junhao
throughout the whole trip... i spoke to him, but he reply me one word only :"nah" (and then he pass me te soap) I guess that's a good intiative and a good progress.

6/7. syafiqah + aiin
yes. both can LOL . funny and bubbly, i find they tends to stick together as compare to the rest of their friends. but they are good water captain ball player esp when they passing of the ball , they did a very good job

8. yuyang
noisy little bugger. but fun he is, without his non stop jap-anime-talk, the fun will never be so high. I like to recall the part when he was a referee. damm funny he is trying to save charis.

9. charis
she is so "SZB" throughout the whole day and like to quarrel with me. damm, this is so funny, and the best part is she never stop quarreling with me even when playing volley ball.

10. nicholas
he is very different when i know him out of class room, you can see that he is so energetic, talkative and alive! from there, and i know that he is happy. however, i couldnt hope that he will be like this when we see him in class....

by the way, find a blog of any goofer is not hard at all, the search engines these days are meant to find things, and they find it damm well, even a slighest word you publish on your blog could me a interesting clue. for instance, just try typing this in a single idiotic google as shown in the picture below

after that, from that person blog, links to many more others... and in a nutshell of less than 5 mins, my starhub broadband brings me at least 8 of the blogs i need to find. No sweat at all! :)

#1: A-lways think twice of what you uploaded in a entry

interesting e.g. of blogger" ... went to smoke...smoke finish go home..."

The best part of this blog is not the statement above, but the school that this student studied in. Ok, what i worry now is if the principal read blogs too...

#2: R-emember not to use real names/words

Let use back the first same example above, and see if I can use a "fake" or "coded" word
" ...went to blow wind....blow finish go home"

the one bolded are the modified words which represent smoke. nicely done. Who would know what is "blow wind"?? Any unknown reader would think that "blow wind" = farting or just leave them guessing....more importantly, you are safe.

#3: T-o hide and conceal

Conceal things that you dun think its important for people to know. Like for example... which school you come from... or who i hate, that sort of things. Because some information published may do more harm that purposeful

I am back from my HongKong trip. The one of the most happy thing that I had with me in this trip is recieving smses from some of you, with the following message " happy father's day"! These message really put a smile on my face.

Happy to say, I am looking forward to this coming monday, school reopens where I will be able to see all of you!

Due to my poor memory and i couldnt remeber who wants to do what, I have decided to repost the respective appointment avaliable for tml SL project.

Note that, everyone of you must do a part in this project. Which means...everyone must have their names in all any one of the appointment stated below

Remedial for chemistry

Dear all,

I know that my request for remedial over the holiday is going to be a bit demanding, But I hope that you can understand that I am trying to finish up the syllabus during the holidays so that when school reopens, we will procced with intensive revision and recap on the older topics

Hence the remedial will take place on the following dates and time
27 June 1pm - 2.30 pm
28 June 1pm - 2.30 pm
29 June 1pm - 2.30 pm

This is to ensure that you have enough time for your lunch break.

please come for all my chemistry lesson as I have said before, organic chem is a big chapter and a rather important chapter. It can help you to score some decent marks in the exams too if you understand this chapter.

I will prepare the consent form and give it to all of you tomorrow.

Majority voted for sentosa-cum-vivo city combo in the class on 20 May 2008.

Although 6 of the classmates are absent, but majority wins.

Just bump across a interesting advertisement from citibank...very meaningful statement I would like to quote them in this class blog, hope it motivates you.

I hope all of you can see beyond the meaning of this statement.

although the MYE is just over and to many, your results may not be ideal.

But then,

please do not make this as a standstill...

please do not think that there are no more opporunity for you...

please dare to dream, and make your dream come true.

Showing our love and concern for the tremors in Myanmar

Dear all,

As mentioned in the class today about our efforts to show our love and concern for the victims from the tremors in Myanmar.

The Donation t-shirt cost about $10 while those who cannot fork out this amount of money can make smaller cash donation as a contribution to this cause.

Although tomorrow is the deadline for the collection of donation, I will prepare abit of money first help those who want to help but not having enough money to pay first. You can pay me back later.

mid year exams is here, and today is the english paper...so stress huh?
relax relax...i'm gonna share with you all soemthing i learn from a programme i attend...and one of the things i learn is stress management... +)

let me tell you all a story first...

Story of the "Trouble Tree"
Sandy (S) & Frankie (F)

There is a girl named S. One day her best friend, F went to look for her after lesson. S said she had a terrible day. She had a test that morning which was a very important test. She stayed up all night to study. She wanted to be all ready for this important test. Hmm...sadly, she found teh questions so difficult. Her mind went blank during exams. She felt so stressed and freaked out in the middle of the test.

S was very upset. So when F met her, he said, "Come on. Don't be so sad. Cheer up. Come, i'll accompany you home today." So they left the school together.

While F reached S's house, she sat at the void deck. She was in stony silence.

"What are you doing here?" F asked.
"Oh. Just give me a minute." S replied.

Before they went up to her block, there was a tree there at the side of the house, and she reached over and catch hold of the tree and then went into the house. When she stepped into the house, immediately her face changed. When opening the door, she underwent an amazing transformation. Immediately her face was transfigured from just a downcast look all the way home. It now turned into a smile. She picked up her 3-year-old brother, gave him a big hug, hug her mother, and tehy had a good little chit-chat and she introduced F to the family.

Afterward S walked her to downstairs. They passed the tree and F's curiosity got the better of her.

F asked her about what she had seen her do earlier. "S, what did you do to the tree just now?"

"Oh, that's my trouble tree," she replied.

"Oh really? So interesting."

"Yeah. I know i can't help having troubles on the studies and in my life, but one thing's for sure, troubles don't belong in the house with my family and all my loved ones. So i just hang them up on the tree every day when i come home. them in the mroning i pick them up again."

"Funny thing is," she smiled, "when i come out in the morning to pick up them up, there aren't nearly as many as i remember hanging up the night before."

Learning points.

It's the same with stress.... what do you do with our problems? Do you pour them on somebody else and upset their day? When stress does occur, it is important to recognize and deal with it.

TAKE TIME OUT. Turn all your worries and problem over to the "Trouble Tree". This helps ease stress and gives you a better perspective of what's around you.

SANDY left then where they belonged. She left them on the "Trouble Tree" and didn't take them into the family and loved ones.

It is a choice to relax your mind. There are so many problems that crop up in our lives from time to time. But we have to choose how we will handle our problems.... for our own sakes!

In the meantime, there are other things you can do to help reduce your feelings of stress and emotional pain. As you begin to understand more about how stress affects you as an individual, you will come up with your own ideas of helping to ease the tensions.

"Are you currently facing any problems at school or at home? If so, what problems are you facing?"

Youths will be asked to share if they have any similar "trouble tree" to help the feel relaxed.

Dear 4E3,

I have decided to push back the CA test for this tues due to the fact that your files and books are taken away by book checking.

I will postpone the test to this wednesday (23 April). The test should be on speed of reaction only with 10 MCQs and one structure question (total 20marks)

Monday, I will pass the notes of speed of reaction to all of you. It is just ready yesterday.
